The US Space Force has officially activated its new specialized command, Space Force Special Operations Command, or SPACEFOR-SOC, at MacDill Air Force Base in Florida. According to Col. Peter "Charlie" Norsky, the commander of SPACEFOR-SOC, the new command aims to integrate Space Force guardians with elite units like Navy SEALS and Army Green Berets, bringing technical space expertise to these missions.

The Space Force is looking for guardians who can keep up physically with troops in highly specialized units, while also providing space expertise, Norsky said. These guardians will undergo specialized training, including expeditionary, tactical, and small team training, to prepare them for deployment with existing elite units.

The goal of the new command is to "normalize" the Space Force and integrate "guardian power at scale" into existing special operations units, Norsky explained. The guardians' roles will include traditional Space Force capabilities, such as monitoring satellite communications and protecting GPS and other navigation tech from enemy jamming.
