Election workers have reported that voting machines were down across Westchester County, New York, on the morning of the midterm elections.
The ballot scanners started to experience issues as early as 6:00 a.m., when the polls opened on Tuesday morning.
Voters are instead instructed to stay in line and fill out paper ballots, but to place them in orange emergency Board of Elections ballot bags to be counted manually.
One poll worker from the area told local news outlet Halston Media they had gotten “no explanation” as to the cause of the errors and no estimate for when it would be fixed.
New York Attorney General Letitia James stated on X that her office was aware of the situation.
“My office is monitoring this issue with scanners in Westchester and is in touch with the state and local Boards of Elections as they work on a solution,” she wrote on Tuesday morning. “Westchester voters can still safely fill out and turn in their ballots at their polling locations. Your votes will count.”
