In his first public appearance since the midterm elections, President Donald Trump showed off the progress on the White House ballroom project before raising the final beam in the ballroom’s roof.
Trump also teased on Wednesday that the “official opening” may take place soon.
“This is a special structure. It’s going to be not only one of the biggest, but it’ll be the most beautiful ballroom, I think, anywhere in the world, and they’ve been trying to get it for 150 years,” Trump told construction workers at the ballroom site in the East Wing of the White House.
Asked for his opinion on the race to choose new Republican leadership in the House, Trump said, “We’ll stay out of it.” In light of Speaker Mike Johnson’s decision not to run, Trump clarified that he did not ask him to step down.
House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) and House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) are both likely candidates for the position of Minority Leader. GOP members of the chamber reportedly plan to hold elections next week.
