NASA has featured a photograph of Comet C/2025 R3, also known as Comet PanSTARRS, alongside a rainbow-colored meteor in their Astronomy Picture of the Day. The comet was captured from Hautacam, France in April, showcasing its impressive ion and dust tails.

According to the explanation provided by a professional astronomer, it is unlikely that the meteor originated from Comet PanSTARRS, as many meteors come from comets and matching them can be challenging. The meteor's colorful streak may indicate a complicated composition, and it is noted that sand-sized rocky debris typically appears as meteors when entering Earth's atmosphere.

The pictured comet is far behind the streaking meteor, suggesting they are not directly related. This month, three notable meteor showers are expected to reach their peaks, including the Southern Taurids, Northern Taurids, and the Leonids Meteor Shower, which originates from Comet 55P/Tempel-Tuttle.

The Southern Taurids will reach their apex over the next few days, while the Northern Taurids will peak about a week later, and the Leonids will reach their crescendo in about two weeks. The image was captured by Eddy Metais and is part of the Astronomy Picture of the Day service provided by NASA and Michigan Tech University.

The service features a different image or photograph of the universe each day, along with a brief explanation written by a professional astronomer.
