Judas: Vance ready to take Trump’s crown after midterms humbling

JD Vance knew it was now or never.
The longer he stayed in Donald Trump’s camp, the more he would be associated with abandoning his America First values for another foreign war.
And so, as Republicans surveyed the damage of their humiliating midterm defeat, the vice-president took it upon himself to deliver a devastating rebuke of the president’s decision to go to war with Iran.
“The reason we lost is the war,” Mr Vance wrote. “The president himself said so last night.”
He added: “If you’d like to argue it was worth it, that losing the Senate for the next six years was worth it, then do so. Argue it was a worthwhile cost to pay. Agree or disagree, that’s at least honest.”
The intervention, drafted without the US president’s approval according to two sources familiar with the matter, was more than just damage limitation. To Mr Vance’s inner circle and the wider Maga movement, it was his play to take the crown as the new leader of the American Right.
