President Donald Trump vowed Friday night to use his presidential veto power to block legislation from a Democratic-controlled Congress, telling conservative activists at a CPAC gathering at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida that Republicans still hold a powerful weapon despite their election setbacks.
"So we'll just get a veto, veto, veto, veto," Trump declared in his remarks, signaling that he intends to use the power of the presidency to counter Democrats' legislative agenda.
Trump also blamed the Democrats' wins in Tuesday's midterm elections for a massive stock market decline, claiming investors had reacted negatively to the prospect of Democrats in control on Capitol Hill.
"We have been ever since, until yesterday when they found out that the Democrats won that election, you lost $3 trillion in the stock market,"Trump said." Can you imagine? We had record stock markets, but it'll be back again.”
