A federal judge is launching an investigation into the Trump administration's handling of a case involving a Washington, D.C. golf course. The judge, Ana Reyes, will examine whether officials from the Interior Department and Justice Department acted in bad faith during the proceedings.

This development comes as part of a larger legal dispute over the administration's plans to renovate the East Potomac Golf Links. The dispute centers on whether the administration followed federal environmental requirements and made accurate representations to the court about the status of the renovation plans.

Judge Reyes has already issued a preliminary injunction to stop further tree removal at the course, citing concerns that the government may have violated federal environmental law. The judge's decision to launch an investigation was prompted by apparent inconsistencies in the administration's statements about the project.

The administration had claimed that no finalized renovation plan existed, but this assertion was called into question by President Trump's own public statements and other evidence. Judge Reyes will examine whether these representations were made in bad faith.

The investigation marks a new escalation in the legal battle over the golf course renovation, with the judge seeking to determine whether administration officials misled the court and violated professional ethics rules.
