Vice President J.D. Vance has proposed reviving peace talks with Iran in a letter to Mohsen Rezaei, the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, according to reports from the New York Times and Wall Street Journal. The letter, delivered by Qatari mediators, suggests that Vance would lead the American delegation and meet with Iranian officials soon.

President Donald Trump reportedly read and approved the letter, although he later downplayed the significance of the outreach, stating that it was related to delivering medical supplies to Iran. Trump told reporters that Vance had asked for his opinion on the matter, and he had given his approval.

The news of potential diplomatic talks has had an impact on oil prices, with the price of Brent crude falling 1.73 percent to $113.32 per barrel on Thursday. This development comes amid ongoing tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, where a ship was reported burning and Iran claimed that three oil tankers had caught fire after striking sea mines.

The average price of regular gasoline in the US was $4.23, slightly lower than the previous day. The situation in the Strait of Hormuz has been escalating, with Iran increasing its attacks in the area since October. The proposed peace talks may be an attempt to ease tensions and find a resolution to the conflict.

The outcome of the proposed talks is still uncertain, and it remains to be seen how the situation will develop.
